COVID 19 In Minnesota

ST. PAUL — More than 2 million Minnesotans have now received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as measures of public health risk posed

by the virus appear to have peaked, offering a hopeful sign that an unprecedented surge of infections driven by the omicron variant could be on its way down.

The Minnesota Department of Health on Wednesday, Jan. 26, reported a seven-day rolling average positive test rate of 22.9% down from a peak of 23.7% the state reached days before. Wednesday's figure is from Jan. 15, the most recently available date for that metric.

Still, the number of new infections and hospitalizations for COVID-19 remain high. MDH reported 1,553 hospitalizations and 15,572 new cases in its Wednesday report.

Following are the MDH COVID-19 case rates, deaths, hospitalizations and vaccinations as of Wednesday. Because all data are preliminary, some numbers and totals may change from one day to the next.

Statewide case rates

  • NEW CASES: 15,572

  • SEVEN-DAY, ROLLING AVERAGE OF NEW CASES PER 100,000 PEOPLE: 216

  • TOTAL CASES, INCLUDING REINFECTIONS: 1,280,500

  • TOTAL REINFECTIONS: 43,567

  • SEVEN-DAY, ROLLING AVERAGE TEST POSITIVITY RATE: 22.9% (as of 1/15)

Hospitalizations, deaths

  • ACTIVE HOSPITALIZATIONS: 1,553

  • TOTAL HOSPITALIZATIONS: 55,977

  • DEATHS, NEWLY REPORTED: 52

  • TOTAL DEATHS: 11,230

Vaccinations

  • FIRST DOSE ADMINISTERED: 3,828,368or 73.5% of ages 5 and up

  • COMPLETED SERIES (2 doses): 3,585,745 or 68.8% of ages 5 and up

  • BOOSTER DOSES ADMINISTERED: 2,001,267
